The Board decided that the want of funds prevented them from granting the prayer of the petitioners. A similar petition from the residents of Rangitnman was dealt with in like manner. Mr. W. Singer wrote relative to future • employment. The Secretary was instructed to deal with the matter. An application for jBIO for the repairing • of the Tawa Flat School was granted. The Upper Hutt Committee applied for a •am of money with which 1o effect repairs. The Board deoided to obtain an estimate of the coat The Chairman was requested to deal with the acceptance of a tender for additions at Femridge. Mr. Young asked what was being done with regard to the erection of another 8choo)hou8e at Paikakariki. He said that he was out there a few days ago, and found ¦ the people very anxious to know when the new sohoolhouse was to be put up. The Chairman explained that a tender had been accepted, and the contractor was now getting timber from Wellington. A letter was read from Mr. Joseph Renal), of Te Whiti, near Carterton, offering, on behalf of the committee, to erect a teaoher's residence on condition that tho Board voted iilOO towards the coat.
