The Germans have jßsued a proclamation thut Tamasese is the rightful King of Samoa, and that all natives must swear allegiance before the 15th. Two gunboats have been sent round the islands to post the proclamations. At Sitnpatia the natives refused to reoognise Tamasese and tore the notice down. The warship Sophie punished the village by burning 160 hounes and 80 boats and canoes. They also shot 300 pigs, out down all the breadfruits, oocoannts, and bananas. The uativea fled to the bush. The Germans demand Malietoa's surrender, under penalty of severe punishment. The adherents of Malietoa decline trusting to the aid of England and America. The Germans assert that their action was not taken in conaoquenoe of any decision at tho Washington Conferonoo, bat because they could stand Malietoa's weakness no longer. Tho Germans at Apia knew nothing of their intention until the arrival of the squadron.
