SWEEPS AND CONSULTATIONS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir— lf tho Gaming and Lotteries Act is to be amended with regard to the legalisation of sweeps, I would suggest that the Government should get up grand national sweeps on the largo metropolitan meetings. Books of tickets could bo issued to all postmasters for sale, and all monies for the salo of such i tickets to be paid into the public account, and all blooks to bo forwarded by them to the Treasury or Audit Department, upon the same principal as post office money ordors. A committee could bo appointed by the Government to superintend the drawings. If this were done it would bo safe for investors and a considerable revenue would result from it, which could be devoted to charitable aid purposes. All sweeps to be published in the principal newspapers of the colony. Trusting this suggestian may meet with the approval of the Colonial Treasurer, I am, &0., Barlow. 15th September.

Never Return. — It is said that one out of every four roal invalids who go to foreign countries to recover health never roturn, exoopt as a corpse. Tho undertakers, next to tho hotelkoepers, havo the most profitable business. This oxcossivo mortality may be prevented and patients saved and cured under tho caro of friends and loved ones at homo, if thoy will but use American Co.'s Hop Bittors in time. Road.
