HUTT. (Our Own Correspondent.)
The nomination of candidates for the Hutt district took plaoe at the Oddfellowi' Hall, Lower Hutt, at noon to-day. The Returning Offioer mounted the hustings punctually at 12. Mr. Henry SamnelFitzherbert was proposed by Mr. James Guilford, publican, and seconded by Mr. Edward Battersby, painter, of Petone. Mr. Thomas Mason waa proposed by Mr. James Knight, farmer, of Lower Hutt, seconded by Mr, Williaai
Milno, farmer, r<f tlio Taita. Mr. Fitzhorl.ort said he was only willing to stand us a I.orfeotly independent member, and Mr. Mason deolared himself a staunch opponont < f the presont Ministry. There wore about SO or CO porsons prrsont, and tho show of hands was - For Mason, 25; forFitzberbert, 22. Mr. Fitzherbert demanded a poll. Mr. moved, and Mr. Fit'/.herbort seconded, v vote of thanks to the Returning Officer, when the agsomblago dispersed.
