Tho Premior stated that only two important Bills will be dealt with this session, the Land Bill and the Local Government Bill. The Minister of Lands indicated the naturo of tho land measure. An extended tenure in to bo given in the scrub oountry, and compensation will be awarded for all improvemontß. An interesting debate took place in the Anglican Churoh Synod on the subject of the reredos in the Cathedral, which is objected to by a peotion of the church party. The Chapter considered the matter, and resolved to cut out the central panel representing tho crucifixion, and something else is to bo put in tho place. Boorsboom, who was charged with tho murdor of his wife, has been acquitted. The jury woro locked up all night and had a great difficulty in agreeing. A committeo has boon appointed to bring a test case in tho law courts against tho Bulli Relief Fund Committee. Tho Sydney branch of tho Federated Seamen's Union has finished ohartoring the steamer Bellinger to proceed to Auckland to compete with tho Northern Steamship Company. It is reported that two other steamers are likely to be ongaged for tho same purpose. Tho weather has been vory stormy and unsettled. Hobart, 7th September. In_ the Assembly resolutions have beon carried in committee in favour of tho imposition of a house tax of ninepenco in the £, a probate duty on real and personal estate, and a poll tax of .£lO on Chinose immigrants. Brisbane, 7th September. The Redistribution Bill is intended to glvo G8 rpprosentativos, or an addition of nine more than at presont.
