Petone Town Board.
Tho regular meeting of this Board was hold last night, tho Commissioners present being Messrs. W. J. Kirk (Chairman), Jackeon, Haines, Kelly, and Batter&by. Mr. J. Fleet waited on the Board, complaining of the manner in which the Board's metal oontractor was working the quarry, alleging that the lives of his men and horses wore endangered, and^it was resolved to writo Mr. Coulter on the subject, reminding him of his responsibility. Mr. H. Tyer wrote asking the Board to defer consideration of the question of opening up rights-of-way in Waltonville, and it was resolved to dofer tho matter till noxt meeting. It was resolved that the neoestary pipes for draining the "triangle" on the direot road bo procured. Commissioner Kelly proposed that a general rate of one smiling in tho pound on all rateable property in tho district payable on the Ist of Juno next, in one instalment, be struck." Commissioner Jackson seoonded tho motion, which was carried. It was resolved to call for tenders for lighting the street lamps to 31st March next. An application for a few loads of metal by a ratepayer was granted, : the pneo to be contract prioe paid by the Board. It was further resolved to supply • any other ratepayer applying on the same terms, tho Board labourer to be allowed to spread tho metal when required for the footpaths in front of sections without further charge. Commissioner Kelly proposed that a bonus of .£lO be given to tbe first person who obtained a permanent flow of water 3ft above the surface, from an artesian well in the town district, the bonus to be olaimed within two months. Carried. Sundry acconnts were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
