Dunedin, 9th May. A man named Beauohamp Thorn has been arrested on a charge of unlawfully sotting fire to a four-roomed houso ho occupied at South Dunedin on the 22nd ultimo. He will appear at the Police Court to-morrow. '1 he .annual meeting of the Freethought Association, held to-night, was not vory well attended. Tho aocounts showed a debit balance on tho year's working of £73. Sir R. Stout was re-elected president. Chbistchuech, 9th May. A rathor important case was decided in tho Resident Magistrate's Oourt to-day. Tho Heathcote Eoad Board Bned if r . j} e \i' t the proprietor of the saltwater baVfaa at Sumner, for rates on tho same. The Or. fendant claimed that ho was not liable, as the baths were below high water mark, and the land wis only vested in the Road Board down to the natural high water mark. Mr. Beetham, R.M., gave judgment for the defendant. Auckland, 9th May. A large picture, costing .£SOO, said to be a replica of Macliso's celebrated painting of tho play scene from " Macbeth," liaß arrived from England, consigned to Major George and Mr. Mackeohnio, for presentation to the Art Gallery.
