The Carpenters' ABSOoiation are forwarding the following 1 to the Premier and city members : — " While admitting the necessity for retrenchment in the Civil Service, we consider it unjust to out down the wagos of Government mechanics while the higher officials are allowed to retain enormous salaries unreduced. Though it is acknowledged that working men should bear their share of the burden, we request the Premier to defer the reduction rooently effected in the wages of mechanics employed in the Public Work 8 Department until such time as the reduction commences in the same proportion from Ministers' salaries downwards."
