In the annual report of the Molbourno Chamber of Commerce, published to-day ,tho oommitteo, without endorsing Sir Julius Vogel's scheme for purchasing tho cables, uphold his proposal that a conferenoo of the Postmastors-Goneral of tho different Australasian colonies bo hold for the pnrposo of discussing tho cable quostion ; and doolaro that such a couforonco can scarcely fail to be productive of good. A conference of representatives of tho different municipalities of Victoria was held in Melbourne to-day for the purpose of discussing tho question of tho Jubilee colobration. Tho delegate 1 ?, however, wore not dispoEcd to carry out an elaborate celebration, believing that they had no power legally to expend tho ratepayers' funds for Buch a purpose. Stdnet, 6th May.
