The Volunteers.

. « The usual weekly parade of the Wellington Naval Artillery took place last evening, and was woll attended, about 50 of all ranks being present. The only officer present was Captain Duncan. The men were put through various manoeuvres by the captain, and subsequently they performed tho sword bayonet exercise under tho direction of Chief Petty Officer Aieher. The reoruits ■were drilled by Petty Officer Armstrong. The Wellington Naval Artillery hold their next shot and shell practice at Fort Buckley on Saturday week. On Tuesday morning next the Wellington Naval Artillery will fire for company prizes. The fourth match for tho first-olass trophy was shot by tho Guards at Polhill Gully this morning, 7 shots at 400, 500, and 600 yards. Tho scores were :—: — 400 500 600 Tl. Private W. Ballinger... 28 24 15 —67 Col.-Sergt. Hale ... 24 19 23 —66 Private A. Ballinger ... 22 18 18 —58 We are requested to stato that Private Oakloy, and not Private Embury, won on the tie in the Class A competition of the Newtown Rifles yesterday morning. Private Oakley having now won the trophy twice, it becomes his own property. Abont 35 entries havo been received up to the present for the annual meeting of the Wellington Rifle Association. Entries olose this evening. It is not expeoted there will be more than half-a-dozen marksmen from the Wairarapa. A Government inspection of tho Petone Naval Artillery is fixed for thin ovening.
