Primitve Methodist Conference.

«. The session on Friday afternoon was ocoupied in examining reports from the various stations in the colony. Theso wero for tho most part of a satisfactory character. On Saturday, the delegates attending tho district meeting, and friends connected with tho local churches, proceeded on a picnic excursion to Tawa Flat. Tho anniversary of the Church at Tawa Flat was celebrated by a soiree on Saturday ovening, when addresses were delivered by the Revs. W. Harris, J. Guy, C. E. Ward, W. S. Potter, and Mr. Jas. Taylor. Yesterday the Eev. P. W. Jones conducted the anniversary sorvicos. The congregations were exceptionally large, and the services were of a most hearty and encouraging kind. The ministers attending the district meoting oconpied the town pulpits yesterday. At Sydney-street the Revs. J. Guy and J. Nixon conducted the services, and at Webb-street the Revs. J. Nixon and W. Harris. Services wero held in tho open air at tho foot of Cuba-street, and that in" the ovoning was very successful. Several hundreds of people gathered Tound the speakers, and listened attentively to addresses delivered by tho Roys. Harris, Clover, Potter, and Mr. G. Fidlor. The uuitod eervico in Wesley Church was fairly sncoensfnl. The Sunday schools were well represented, and addrcssos wero delivered by the Roy. J. Guy and Mr. D. Goldio. This morning at 9 o'clock Mr. T. H. Lyon, a candidate for the ministry, preached a trial sormon,. after whioh the conference proceeded to tho examination of station roports.

In consequence of tho length of our telegrams and local matter to-day, a number of letters to tho editor, and other mattor, are unavoidably held over. Wo understand that the Phoonix Insuranco Office loses JE2500 by the fire ontheDunedin Iron and Woodwaro Company's premises. Mr. Pringle, of tho Art Work Depot, Lambton-quay, insorts a notice on our third pago which should bo of considerable interost to those of our lady readers who are admirers of artistic needlework, and who at tho same timo wish to procure work and materials at a minimum of cost.
