4 ANNUAL MEETING. [By Telegraph. j [united tress association.] Auckland, 13th October. At the annual meeting of the South British Insurances Company there was a largo attendance of shareholders. Captain Daldy presided. The Chairman moved, at the suggestion of a shareholder, that tho balanco at the end of the year standing to debit of tho profit and loss account be written off the reserve fund, which would then be reduced to .£86,500, and leave tho accounts quite clear. The motion was unanimously adoptod. The directors' report as amended was moved by the Chairman, soconded by Mr. Barstow, and carried. Tho Hon. H. C. Chamborlin, in a lengthy speech, made many charges against the directors as to the way in which they had managed affairs. The statemonts wore contradicted by other speakers. On the motion of Mr. J. M. Clark, seconded by Mr. Ralph Keesing, a resolution was carried expressing regrot that Mr. Chamberlin had made a statement which he had been uuablo to prove. A resolution was carried reducing tho directors' honorarium from .£l4OO to .£7OO. Mr. Compton moved that the retiring 1 directors, Messrs. A. Buckland and Richard Hobbs, be re-elected, but Messrs. A. Buckland and David Goldie had the greater show of hands. A poll was domanded, resulting in the old directors being re-elected. Tho numbers were— Mr. A. Buckland, 33,150 ; Mr. Eichard Hobbs, 32,599 ; Mr. D. Goldie, 13,288; Mr. J. Elkin, 12,700. A vote of thanks to the directors and Chairman was passed after a prolonged mooting.
