Sib— lt is satisfactory to know that Dr. Hector, who is on the spot so soon after tho eruption at Rotomahana, is ono who, by tho opportunities and moans of observation be has had and of which he has availed himself, is thoroughly qualified to gain for soience all tho advantages to be derived from observations made so soon after the explosion, and while its subsidiary operations are still in action.
