THIS DAY'S PARLIAMENT. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Tho House met at 2.30 o'clock. Dr. Nowman gave notice to ask the Government if they will refrain from changing the names of places in Wellington, and if thoy will retain tho name of Fort Gordon ? The Premier gave notice of a Bill to amond tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Act. Mr. Beetham asked the Premier if ho will consider the advisability of giving some direction to Registration Officers that will «nablo them to determine what constitutes •a sufficient residence to enable a olaimant to register under the residential qualification ? The Promier said it would bo very objection(able for the Government to issue a circular tolling the Registrar how to interpret the •law. If, however, there was any difficulty about registration, it would be better to •amend the Act. He did not know whether •there would be time to do it this sossion. Mr. Beetham asked tho Minister for Public "Works, if ho will take steps to have a new survey made of the harbour of Castlepoint, for the object of determining the possibility of providing a much-needed wharf for that port? Mr. Richardson said if funds were forthcoming to build a large wharf there, a survey would be made. In answer to Mr. Moat, as to whether tho Government intended to take any steps to give offect to the recommendation of tho Potitions Committee on the the petition of John Tuck re the importation of horses from England, tho Premier said the Government were in communication with the Governments of the other colonies on the subject, and were waiting for their reply before coming to a decision in the matter of admitting horses from foreign parts.
