The Volunteers.

?- At a committee meeting held last evening at Messrs. Cooper L Steward's office, in connection -with the formation of a new Volunteer corps, it was reported that the requisite number of persons had signified their intention of enrolling themselves, and that an understanding had been arrived at that Captain Marshall would take command of the new corps. Another meeting will be held next week for the pc rpose of enrolling intending members, and the furthor steps necessary towards the formation of the company will then be pushed forward as quiokly as possible. An examination of candidates for Volunteer commissions will be held at the Mount Cook Barracks on Monday, the sth July. Intending candidates are required to forward their names to Captain Coleman at least a, week betorohand. The Guards will parade in heavy marching order on Monday next for tho purpose of enabling Colonel Sir G. Whitmore and probably the Defence Minister to 'inspect the new valise equipments. The Garrison Band will be present, and at the close of the inspection there will be a march ont. A meeting of the Amusement Committee to carry ont the conoert and dance for the benefit of the Garrison Band will be held on Monday next, at the Drill shed, at 8.30 p.m., for the purpose of making the final arrangements for concert, See., and it' ia- hoped that every member will attend.- The tickets are going off very fast, and the affair promise! to be a great anooew. ,
