Major Noalto ia appointed a member of the Military Examination Board for the Wangnnui district, and Captain "W. Messenger is promoted to bo major in the New Zealand militia. We near it is the intention of the Volunteers to open the Polhlll Gully range, after tho alterations nra completed, with a rifle match— ten to be selected from each corps. The range is expected to bo finished about the second week in January. We understand It is also tho intention to purchase a trophy for tho winning team, to be won twice before it become!! tho property of the team. Tho fifteenth competition by the City Rifles for Mr. Freeman'f telescope took place at the Folhill Gully rango this morning ; conditions, M shots at 600 range. Tho following are the scored :— Private G. Palmer, 51: Private Jackson, 48; Private Cato, <U; Private Hankin, 43; Private Andrews, 40; Corporal Moore, 88; Private Cauty, 38; Private H. Palmer, 87 ; Private Petherick, 35 ; Private Guiso, 81 : Sergeant Madoley, 83; Sergeant Burton, 29; Col.-Sergeant Davia, 27; Private Allen, 20 ; Private Prcist, 4. A parade of thdse members of city corps who had not completed the annual judging distance practice took place on the reclaimed land, near tho Wellington and Mnnawatn Railway Station, yceterduy evening. Sertrt. -Msjor Bell was in command. Borgt. Webb, who has been connected with tho local volunteers for tho past 16 or 17 years, and the D Battery of Artillery for tho lost 11, sevon his connection with the latter corps at tho end of tho preaont month, owing to a change of residence. After tho New Tear ho will live at the Lower Hutt. Bcrgt. Webb has been one of tho most zealous members in the D Battery, and his loss will bo felt by the company. firing for tho cup presented to the 'Wellington Naval Artillery by Mr. Kohn took place this morning. Tho trophy woa won by Seaman W. Harris.
