AN UNFAIR IMPUTATION.

Mr. F. H. Fraser was exceedingly unjust and unfair to this journal in certain remarks whioh he made at tho temporanoo domonßtration last night. It will be observed that ho accused us, in referring to the procession, of having said "somewhat scornfully" that it was oomposed mainly of womon and children. Wo may inform Mr. Fraser that the statement was not made in any such spirit, bnt simply as a record of a fact whioh must havo been apparent to everyone who saw the procession, and it is one whioh wo do not consider affords any ground for scornful comment. On the oontrary, we think the presence of so many women and ohildren under the circumstances was a very oncomraging and pleasing fact. It is really a pity that Mr. Fraser and many of his ooworkers limit their temperance to abstinence from alcoholic liquors, and ore prone to apply intemperate language to all whom they imagine may ch*noo not to agree in their extreme views regarding the liquor traffic. They alienate much usofnl support by intomperance of this kind. Mr. Fraser would do well to remember that thero is very high anthority for the statement that a man can be defiled more by what prooeeds out of his mouth than by what he puts into it. It is worthy of note that almost immediately after accusing us of treating the temperance movement "scornfully" Mr. Frasor went on to urge hiß hearers to road regularly the weekly oolumn which we have placed at his disposal to be usod in advocacy of that cause.
