A Conspiracy to Defraud Government.

[Bt Teliobato. I lUNITBD FBCBB ABSOCIATIOIO Chbibtchubor. 30th May. Thomas Howe, formerly timekeeper on the Lyttelton Railway, and eight other employes, are oharged with defrauding Government by means of Howe giving the others credit for doing work whioh they never performed. The exact amount of defalcations is not known. It is believed to be some hundreds. Howe was arrested in Wellington, and with the eight others was oharged to-day before the Resident Magistrate's Court with conspiracy to defraud the Government. The men were remanded till Wednesday next, as one of the principal conspirators bad not yet been arrested.
