The Agents-General for the Cape of Good Hope and the Australian Colonies have presented n joint petition to Mr. Childers, Chancellor of tho Exchequer, asking for a reduction of the wine duties, in spite of tho fact that a rupture has 00curred in the negotiations of a commercial treaty with the Spanish Government. The project which han been set on foot to establish a hospital nt Port Said, as a memorial to the late General Gordon, has been abandoned, and the committee who have charge of the mibscriptions are now considering to what use tho funds shall be put. Berlin, 31st May. The latest bulletins with regard to the health of the Emperor William Btate that he is decidedly better, Capetown, 29th May. The New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. Aorangi left this morning for New Zealand ports, SOLDIERLY CONDUCT OP THE 1 N.S.W. CONTINGENT. [bmoiai to unrrKD press association.^] (Received May 30, 4.45 p.m.) LonsoN, 30th May. General Graham, in his despatches, commends tho general order maintained by the New South Wales Contingent, and Bays that by their action a bright example has been shown of the latent military strength of the Empire, nnd that the soldierly spirit shown by them was a theme of universal admiration. The various Agents-General and a number of merchants have waited upon the Government and urged thorn to modify the existing duty on colonial wines.
