Meeting of Creditors.
A meeting of oroditora in tho estate of Thomas Fredk. Morley, homoeopathist, was held at tho Supreme Court Buildings this morning, the Offioial Assignee proaiding. The liabilities amount to JE3I9 lla 9d, and thero are 39 croditora. The assets aro valued at .£ll9 13s, viz., £5 for shop and fitting*, £24, 13s for furniture, and ,£9O for book debts. Mr. Skerrett appeared for tho dobtor. Tho Offioial Assigneo reported that ho oxpeoted the furniture and Bhop fittings to realise the estimated amounts. He did not think tho book debts would bring in very much. The bankrupt's statement was to tho effect that he bad boon in business for about 20 months. Ho took premises on Lambton-qnay, and practised aa_ a homooopathiat. Ho took the premises from Mrs. George, bnt did not owo her anything. After leaving Lamb-ion-quay he took a shop in Manners-street, but did not open it, as he found himself in difficulties. He would not havo filed hia schedule but for prefesnre on the part of oreditorain Dunedin-Hatton, King & Co., manufacturing confectioners, for whom he had at ono time acted as Wellington agent. Mr. M'Donald (Casey & M'Donald) asked whether the debtor had kept any acoount of his receipts and disbursements. Bankrupt said he could prepare auoh a statement in a few days. He had done hia best to make an arrangement with his Dunedin creditors, but finding that impossible he had bsen obliged to Beck the protection of the Court. Replying to other questions, the bankrupt eaid that ho came down from Auckland about twenty months ago, to open an agency in Wellington for Byoroft & Co., biscuit makers, Auckland. He rocoived 5 por ennt commission. Tho agency was cloaed abont five months ago, as it did not pay. Whila acting aa agent for Bycroft & Co. he Bometiraea attended people 03 a homceopathist, bnt he did not think he hod ever received any remuneration for those services. Mr. A. A. Barnctt thought teat creditors were to blame for parting with their (roods too freoly. Tho bankrupt had reokiesaly obtained goods, knowing that he was not in a good position, and to mark their disapproval of his conduct ho would move that tho present meotinjj stand adjourned for two months. The Offioial Assignee said he did not think any good would result from auoh a course. Mr. Skerrett denied that hia client had acted in a reckless manner. Mr. M'Donald remarked that it was not the bankrupt's fault that the aoconnt with Casey and M'Donald waa not three times aa largo as it was. After some disoussion, the meeting was, on the motion of Mr Sample, seconded by Mr. Rout, adjourned for a week, so as to allow the debtor to submit a statement of receipts and expenditure
