The oommitteo appointed in oonneotion with the movement to establish a Homo for tho aged poor mot yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber after the meeting of the Bonovolont Committee. Thoro were prosent, in addition to those who attended the latter meeting, Messrs. W. H. Levin. A. W. Brown, and H. Gaby. Mr. A. G. Johnson, secretary pro tern., resigned his appointment, not having the time to devote to the duties, and Mr. C. P. Powlob agreed to take his place. The Mayor wrote exorossing sympathy with the movement, but aikintt to be relieved of the position of Treasurer. Mr. B. Smith was appointed to aot in his stead. The Chairman submitted a list of Government and Corporation reserves in the oity and neighbourhood whioh would be suitable for a site for the proposed Home. Referring to the intended deputation to the Government, the Chairman said he would like, before waiting on tho Government to see by the subscription Hits that they had a sufficient basis to work upon. Mr. Levin remarked that the apathy of the publio in respect to the movement seemed to be reprehensible. He moved that the oommitteo should employ a canvasser to go round for subscriptions, and in the meantime the committee might wait on tho Government. Mr. Williams, in seconding, said while people generally expressed sympathy with the objeots of the institution, they did not appear disposed to afford mnoh practical asßintanoe. Eventually a sub-aommitteo waa elected to arrange abont oanvassing the oity, and they were empowered to employ a paid canvasser, if neceisary. Mr. Levin suggostad that the co-operation of the ladios in connection with the movement shonld be solicited, and the Chairman thought the suggestion a very good one, and it was agreed to aot upon it. The Chairman referred to the report of the commission of inquiry relative to Kate Kelly's admission into the Hospital, and alluded to that portion of thoir report whioh laid stress on the nooessity of relieving tho Hospital of the aged and infirm, remarking that this was only one more proof of the urgent nooessity for suoh a Home as that now proposed. The proceedings then terminated.
