New Zealand Rifle Association.

At a meeting of the Council, held on Thursday, Lieutenant - Colonel Leau, of Chriatohuroh, Captain Wildman, Thames, and Major Butts, Wellington, were elected ' Vice-Presidents ; and the following gentlemen were appointed on the Council to fill vacancies in the representation of the several distriots, viz., Mr. Thompson, M.H.R., Auckland ; Mr. W. F. Buokland, M.H.R., Waiuku; Mr. Lake, M.H.R., Waikato; Captain Russell, M.H.8., Last Coast; Lieutenant Rogers, Blenheim ; Mr. Lance, M.H.R., Canterbury; Major Steward, M.H.R., Oamaru; Mr. Gore, M.H.R., Dunedin; Mr. H. Hirst, M.H.R., Southland; Colonel Fraser, M.H.R., Thames. The Hon. Major Baillie was re-elected Chairman of the Association for tho current year. Mr. R. J. Collins was appointed Treasurer. Tho resolution of tho Executive Committee, that the next competitive meeting be carried out under the existing rules] and that the rules be revised by delegates to attend during the next shooting 1 , was confirmed by the Council. A deputation from tho Exeoutive Committeo, consisting of Messrs. M'Credie, Collins, Steele, Scott, and tho Seoretary, waited on his Woi^hip the Mayor by appointment yesterday ai'tornoon. Captain M'wodie explained the object of tho deputation, which was to enlist the assistance of his Worship and tho Council in carrying ont the next meeting. Tho Mayor explained that no funds could be devoted to the cause out of Corporation moneys, but he would endeavour to provide, by private subscription, a trophy for competition, which would be worthy the city. His Worship kindly offered to assist the Association in every way, and trustod the forthcoming meeting would be a sucoess. The question of entertaining visiting competitors waa touched upon, and it was decided to bring tho matter np again later on. The 'newly-organised Garrison Amateur Dramatic Club will give their first performance at the Theatre Eoyal on Friday, the 21st prox., in aid of the funds of the Association, and the Committee of tho Association are arranging for its being properly patronised. An announcement will be mode in our advertising columns in a few days. The sub-committee appointed to draw up the programme for tho next firing moot tonight, and to-morrow night a meeting will bo hold of the General Committee. It iB understood that a suitable range can be found at the Island Bay Park, and the Committee will loae no time in perfecting arrangements.
