She was brought before the Magistrate, and the case was remanded till the 26th instant. Throe months ago she opened a baby-linen thop in Knra-ngahape-road, under tho name of Miss Wilson. Tho shop was fitted out for her by a ' man named Wilson, a carpenter, to whom it was understood she was engaged to be married. The inquest on tho child v. ill bo held on Thursday, and in the meantime an autopsy will be made which will probably leaa to the discovery of th« truth or falsity of the laudanum story. The aoousod has refused to take any food since she has boon in custody, and it is stated ahe haa neithor oaten nor drank sinoe Sunday last. This Day. Eoaina Smith still maintains tho strictest silence regarding her antecedents, and refuses to give any information regarding the father of the child. The polico have discovered that some months ago she was employed in a hotel at Cambridge, Waiknto. Amongst her effects a small bottle of laudanum has been found. A gentleman, when talking to prironer on Saturday night, heard the child ory, and Baw it move in her arms. This was at 7 o'clock. At 20 minntos past 7 prisoner was back at Wakeham's, a good ten minutes' walk from Mason's Gardens. The police theory consequently is that sho ■ burisd tho child alive.
