Fatal Accident at Petone.

A young man named Albert James met with a fatal aooidont at the Government workshops at Petone abont 9 o'olock this morning. The unfortunate lad, who was an apprentice engaged in the shops, was employed at the time stated in fitting a driving bolt to the wood-lathe, and for this purpose had mounted to a position about 10 feet above the floor. From Borne unknown cause he missed his footing and fell forward on the pulley, which was in motion. This throw him off and he was preoipitated head first on to tho band-saw bench, striking it violently with his temple, and then falling to tho floor. He was taken up insensible, and a special train being speedily put together, he was brought up to town. Dr. Henry, who saw him at the railway station, advised his immediate removal to the Hospital. While being conveyed there in an express he was heard once or twice to exclaim "Lift mo up, I am stifling." He was examined by Dr. Chilton immediately on arrival, but that gentleman fonnd that death had already taken plaoe, a slight muscular tremor, observable for an instant being sucoeeded by tho stillness of dissolution. It is not known yet whether James had any relations in the colony. He was about 19 years of age, and only arrived here a few months ago from England in one of the direct steamers.
