Tho steamer M'Gregor, which has been detained in tho Waitara River eight days owiDg to a sandbank which had formed and prevented her getting out, attempted to leave this morning and grounded on tho south spit, whero aho now lies. An attempt was made to lighten her, but without effect, and she now lies on the spot tho s.s. Rowona grounded on years ago, and where she was two months before 1 she again floated. There is a lumpy sea on, and hor position is critics I. The New Plymouth harbour tug is lending hor every assistance. Tho steamer Uowena not being able to enter Waitara, cam 9 on to New Plymouth to discharge her cargo this morning.
