THE S.S. STORMBIRD IN A GALE. [By Telegraph.] [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, 17th October.

The steamer Stonnbird put into this port this evening. She left Wanganui on Saturday night, with twenty head of cattle, 100 sheep, and some lambs for Greymouth. The Manawatu left at the same time for Westport. The Stonnbird met with terrible weather across the Strait^ and took shelter under Bangitoto Island. On Sunday she went into Port Hardy, but saw no sign of any vessel there. On Monday she ran for Totaranui, and on her way saw the Manawatu running, apparently, for Guard's Bank. The Stonnbird wen getting short of coal, and having lost about forty sheep, came on here. This Dat. The steamer Stormbird lands her live stock here, and returns to Wellington this evening.
