THORNDON LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The quarterly meeting of tha Thorndon Licensing Committee was held at tho Native Hostelry, Molesworth-itreet, at noon to-day: . Present— Messrs. Allen (chairman), Parsons, Bhannon, and Moore. The first application considered was that of Mr. Williams fot » renewal of license for the Metropolitan Hott}, wbioh had been adjourned to the quarto 'ly meeting to give the applicant time to devise some better means for safety in case of fire. Sergeant Anderson stated that iinoe the report, drawing attention to the insufficient means of safety in the event of a fire, hid been written, he had tidied the premise*, and found thatan outside ¦tairoaie had been ereoted communicating with the baok yard, besides whioh ropes had been providol for the safety of the inmates of tha bedrooms. The committee considered that this waa about the b«st medium of etoape possible, and granted the applcation accordingly. An application was made for a transfer of the lioenie of the Wellington Hotol,Molesworth-ntr«efc,from I homasUrwin to D. E.Toohdl, which was grantrd. Applications for »enewals of licenses for Shepherd's Anns Hotel and Shamrock Hotel were granted, it appearing that sufficient moans for eso_pe from fire had been provided since the annual meeting 6t th« committoe. Pergeant Anderson reported that owing to a misunderstanding no rope ladders bad been provided in the owe of the Provinoial Hotel, and tbat the ladder, whioh was the only means of esoape at present provided, wab insufficient. Mr. Power said he had been under the impression that this ladder waa all that was required, bat if the oommitten would give him time he would ste that rope hidden were provided. This was agreed to. The committee soon after adjourned.
