A.J.O. SPRING MEETING. RESULT OF THE GREAT METROPOLITAN. UNION COMPANY~v. MELBOURNE HARBOUR TRUST. fUIUTIE's TELEGRAM.] Sydney, 6th September. The second day's racing' of the Australian Jockey Club's spring meeting took place to-day. The weather was fine, and the attendance of visitors very large. His Excellency Lord A. Loftus and suite were again present during the day. The race for the Spring Maiden Stakes, one mile and a half, resulted as follows: — Heola 1, Sainora2,Eva3. For the Great Metropolitan Stakes, the following 19 horses started : — Lord Burghley, Barber, Proctor, Creswiok, /3uwanow, Sting, Gudarz, Gipsy Cooper, Strathearn, Lord Orrille, Comet, Stella, Britisher, Prima Donna, Kingsworth, Harebell, Westbury, Masquerade, and Brunette. Sting was a strong favourite at the start. The running was made by Harebell and Brunette, who led the field natil the home torn was reaohed, when Comet, Sting, Britisher, Proctor and Kingsworth appeared most prominent. Coming down the straight Comet led, followed by Britisher ; Masquerade was dose behind on the outside, and coming up rapidly, ultimately passing Comet and Britisher, and finishing rather easily a length and a-half in front, with Comet second, and Britisher a good third, Kingsworth fourth, Lord Orville fifth, and Sting sixth. Time, 3min 33sec. The Squatters' Handicap was won by Brian Boru, Hypathia 2, Willeroo 3, after a splendid finish, Brian Boru only winning by a neck. Melbourne, sth September. At the Supreme Court to-day, the appeal case, Union Steamship Co. of New Zealand v. the Melbourne Harbour Trust, for damages sustained by the steamship Rotorua, through fouling the anchor of a dredge in October last, was decided. Judgment, which was reserved on 20th June last, was returned for defendants. In the Legislative Council this evening, the Licenses Qualifying BUI was read a third time and passed.
