Three weeks Ago, Rewi sent Mr. GrsM, native agent, to the Mokau for- the purpose of ascertaining if there were any objections, beyond Tawhiao'a/ o)airil& ' of mttiii r 'ttiA ownership, to -the Holding '' 'of a1"a 1 " Native Lands -Court -there. - Mn Grao© -vkited the Upper Mokau nad Tuhua country. Large- meetings Were held at Upp&'fctt Lower Mokau, and disoontcnt exproeled at the action- of the QoVernmeflti in 'Wf using tlio Land Court, thoroby throwing the natives back on Tawhiao'a rule. The natives ridiculed Tawhiao'a claim, and alleged thai thd Mtftrtijtoto- tribe separated from the Kingitea at the Hikurangi meeting last year, when they decided to follow Rewi and put the land through the Court. Mr. Grace returned from Kihikihi yesterday, and detailed the result of his mjesion to Eewi, who has written tjo Mr. Bryce, urging him to listen' to thd ' revest of the Mokau natives tor a Land .Court. He also applied for a Court for lands of his own on the Taupo side. Re Wotere, an influential Mokau chief, aooompaniod Mr. Grace.
