The German Reichstag has re-elected its President and Vice-President. A Bedouin murdered a soldier at Suez, and the affair led to a riot among the military , in the course of which the Governor of tho place was subjected to outrage. At preson t matters are quiet. Eighteen Socialists have been arrested in Vienna. The Lord Mayor of London has communicated with the provincial mayors, requesting their cs-operation in the movement which has lately been initiated for the defence of p- operty in Ireland during the present period of lawlessness in that country. A farmer has keen murdered at Abbeyleix, in Queen's County, Ireland. 21st December. The Atlantic steamer Bath City his baen wrecked, and ten people were drowned. The Bath City was a vessel of 1724 tons, and was built at Btockton-on-Tees in 1880. '] he members of the Ladieß' Land League, which was suppressed by tho Government as a seditious and illegal association, have Held a meeting, and openly defied tho action of the Government. A gas explosion of a serious nature has occurred in Vienna, causing several deaths and injuring others. The Customs authorities at New York have discovered 1800 cases of rifles shipped for Liverpool, and described as hardware. The Montreal branch of the Irish Land Leaiue threatens to publish the names of the lii«h residents who refuse to contribute to the funds of the Irish National Convention in Chicago. Several Nihilists have been arrott9d in St. Petersburg, who were detected carrying dynamite enclosed in oranges. 22nd December. The Swiss Houße of Assembly have under consideration a bill granting succour and protection to the sufferers by the disastrous earthquakes which have been lately experienced throughout the cantons. Tho workmen who wore engaged in constructing the St. Gothard tunnel, in the Alps, have been paid off. The French troops are suffering considerably from cold and exposure in Algeria, and much sickness prevails. Six ladies have contributed a sum of .£9OOO to the fund initiated for the defence of property during the present period of lawlessness in Ireland. 23rd December. Since the catastrophe at the Ring Theatre in Vienna, the public have almost entirely forsaken the other theatres in the oity. In order to restoro confidence in the minds of the people, tho lessees of the various theatres and places of amusement have formed a deputation to the Emperor, asking that experts might be appointed to report on the means of egres ? from the buildings. Seventeen British sailors have keen arrested at New Orleans for causing a disturbance at a public meeting in that oity. The statement that Mr. Patnell had been romoved from Kilmainham Gaol to Armagh Gaol is without foundation.
