RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
— , — This Day. (Before Mr. K. Hardcastle, 8.M.) DRUNKARDS. Clinton Perry and Elizabeth Oalrci for drnukennesa were fined 5s each, or 24 honrt, STEALING FROM THE PERSON. Alfred Morey, his wife, Mary Bendon Morey, and Mizibeth Stewart were charged with stealing six £1 notes, one half-sovereign, 7s 6d in silver, a watoh, and a bunch of keys. Detective Browne applied for an adjourn* ment till Monday, on account of one of the principal witnesses being' a Hebrew, and this being his Sabbath. The police on this account had not, therefore, subpoenaed him, but would do so the first thing on" Monday " morning. The prisoners were remanded accordingly. ALLKOED VA«ANOT. Alfred Tovey, a respectable-looking nan, was charged, under the Vagrant Act, with having no vi3ibio lawful meaus of support. Defective Browne stated that the prisoner had been drinking heavily, and was quite unable to take care of himself. He was evidently on the veiy verge of dtlirivm tremens, and shook like an aspon leaf when in the dock. The Magistrate did not consider the case a fit one to imprison, and discharged the prisoner. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. Elizabeth Oakes, who had been previously fined for drunkenness, was charged with breaking a window and destroying cream confectionery of the valne of £\ 13b on the premises of William Grant, Clyde Quay. Whan the case was called on no one appeared to prosecute, and the prisoner was discharged. The wife of the prosecutor came in alter the case had been disposed of, and laid a fresh information agakstthe accused. The Court 'hen adjourned.
