The Hon. W. W. Johnston addressed tho electors of Mauawatu at the Town Hall, Palmerstoa North, last night. There was a crowded meeting. He spoke for two hours, and received a unanimous vote of confidence, there being not one dissentient. Gretmouth, Ist December. Mr. David Madden is a third candidate to represent the Grey in Par.iament, aud he has commenced a vigorous canvas 3. Mr. Morris is again spoken of; but it is uncertain whethor he will come torward. Mr. Joseph Petrie addressed a very large meeting here, to-night, at great length, occupying nearly two hours. His politics aro ultra- Liberal. He was very well received throughout, and obtained a practically unanimous vote of confidence, only two hands being against and 100 in favour of the resolution. Napier, Ist December. Mr. M'Dougall, one of the candidates for the Napier seat, addressed the eleotors laat night, aid received a vote of thanks. He stands in the Kadical interest. Mr. Sydney Johnston announces his retirement from the Waipawa. scat. Christchurch, Ist December. The Temperance Political Committee has resolved to recommend the temperanoe eleotors to support the following : — Mr. Andrews for Christchurch North, Mr. Anderson for Christchuroh South, Mr. J. L. Wilson for St. Alban's, Mr. Lester for Stanmore, and Mr. White for Sydonham. Messrs. Saunders, Fendall, and M'lllwraith were duly proposed for Cheviot, and the Returning Officer proceeded to take a show of hauds, when Mr. Saunders claimed the right to speak. Messrs. Fendall and M'lllwraith wished to have the show of hands taken at once. The Keturning Officer left it to tho meeting, which decided by a considerable majority to take tho show of hands first. Mr. Saunders again protested against the illegal action, but the show of hands was duly called for, and resulted as follows :—: — Saunders, 2 ; Fendall, 25 ; M'lllwraith. 19. Mr. Saunders' supporters refused to vote, and Mr. Saunders said ho would address them at Amberley next Tuesday on the illegality of the nomination. Opunake, This Dat. Cn Major Atkinson addressing the oleotors last evening, a vote of confidence was put, bnt there was a majority against the motion.
