[Bt Telegraph.] , UNITED PRESB ASSOCIATIOtf.J Cheistchcbch, 28th November. At tbe inquest to-day, on the man Cockbnrn, formerly mate on boird the Portland, and since oa the Examiner, who was found dead on the Sandhills at Kaiapci yesterday, a verdict was returned that the deceased died from a gunshot wound, bat by whom inflicted there was no evidence to show. The medical evidence showed it was possible for the wound to bo self-inflicted, but was not a natural wound for a suicide, nor could the wei|X>n have been thrown away alter wards. Curiously enough, the weapon cannot be found. The Coroner said he oanonrred with the verdict, for thougk there was no evidence, there could be littl* doubt it was Cockburn's own deed.
