[By Telegraph.] [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, This Day.
A dutachmeut of the Mountod Rifles, under Captain Davidson, accompanied by Major Tuko, visited the various settlemenis between Waitara and Urenui yesterday to Bearch for arms. They returned to town last night at about 10.30, having during the day searched seventy native villages, and secured sixty stand of arms, oonsistinj? chiefly of fowling-pieoes, rifles, and a few " Brown Besses." The party did a hard daya's work, riding nearly 80 miles. Patea, This Dat. The Wanganui and Marton infantry arrived last night, and proceeded to Waverly this morning. Tho Waitotara natives who aio witnesses in Hiroki's case, have held a meeting, and refused to proceed to Now Plymouth t > give evidence. Inspector James has gone to watch tho prosecution.
