THE CHRISTCHURCH ABSCONDER.
♦ By Telbgraph. i united press association. Christchurch, 14th November. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, W. W. Charters was charged on six counts with embezzlement. Evidence was taken at length, after which the prisoner said — " I shall plead guilty in the higher Court of having 1 taken the money referred to m the first three charges, but I have not received any part of it personally, and I shall disclose the names of those who, in my opinion, and I hope that of the public too, are more blameable than myself, and who received the benefit from the fraud. I wish to say, with regard to the last three charges, that i deny them in Mo. I have not embezzled the money. Hamilton has had his loan, and Hestell as well. I could produce the proof of innocence if I was at liberty." He was committed for trial on all six charges The charge of forgery will be heard on Monday.
