This Day. i Before Mr. Edward Shaw, B.M.] • DRUNKENNESS. George Cayey, who was found lying in * gutter last night, was fined ss. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE, FORGERT AND UTTERING. Harry NiekolU waa charged on remand with attempting to commit suicide. Th» police did not wish to proceed further with the case, and the prisoner waa therefore di»charged. He was then charged with forging and uttering a cheque for £A 12a with intent to defraud. The circumstances of the case have been previously reported. The oheqae purported to be drawn by Mr. J. H. Staples in favour of the prisoner, who by its means obtained 25a on account from Mrs. Mac* namara, of the Waterloo Dining Booms. The prisoner said he was in the " horrors" at the time of the alleged offence, of which he recollected nothing. He waa committed for trial. ALLEGED OBSCENITY. Dennis Driscoll, for whop Mr. J. G. Allan ' appeared, was charged with using obscene language in Mannera-atreet on Friday. The case waa adjourned for an hour, with a view ' to the production of a material witness for the defence. The defendant was discharged. BOBBING A CHINAKAK's GARDEN. Henry Harvey denied a charge ot stealing certain vegetables, value 4s, belonging to Ah Toy, who was sworn by blowing out a match. Nowtown at 3 o'clock on Sunday morning, and filled a bag with cabbages, turnips, and carrots. Seizing a gun, Ah Toy, who was apparently on the look out for marauders, fired it in the air. This so frightened the visitor that he took to his heels, leaving tho bag behind him. There was no evidence to identify the prisoner with tho visitor, and he was acquitted. BT-LAW CABES. George Lancaster, charged with obstructing Willis-street by placing luggage on tho footpath, showed clearly that no was in no wise to blame, and the summons was dismissed. F. Arnold, a youth, was charged with throwing stones. It was shown ibat he waß concerned with others in throwing stones at a porter named Patrick M'Cafferty. He was fined £2 and costs, in default 7 days' hard labour. William Carpenter, a lad, who charged a catapnlt with a stone in Willis-Btreet and fired it at Constable Mackinnon, A.C., was fined 10s without costs, in edfault to be imprisoned till 7 o'clock this evening. C. Upham and William Pownall, two other boys, were charged with letting off fireworks in Molesworth-street, without the permission of tho City Council, on the eve of ''Guy Fawkea' Day." Upham was discharged, the other boy was fined ss. W. Edwards, for driving round a street corner at more than a walking pace, was fined Gs and 14s costs. N. Ball, W. Astell, and Eichard Benfield, similarly charged, were fined 6a, 9s, and 12s costs respectively ; and Michael Williams and John Chambers had to pay 6s without costs. DIBOBBTING A MAINTENANCE ORDER. A. Hoskins was charged with disobeying maintenance order. Ihe charge was adjourned for a week. j QUARRELSOME COOKS. Thomas Igoe was charged with assaulting Frederick Vincent Rutherford. The parties were employed at the Theatre Royal Hotel, the' defendant as head cook and the complainant as second cook. Some dispute arose abont certain food that was being prepared, and it was alleged that the defendant used unnecessary violence to bis assistant. The case was adjourned till Thursday. The Court rose at 1.30 p.m.
