HARBOUR BOARD.
» The fortnightly meeting of the Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present; — Messrs. Levin (Chairman), Nathan, Jackson, and Krull ; his Worship the Mayor, and Captain Rose. Tho Chairman stated that the deputation appointed to wait upon the Government with respeot to a site for a sailors' home had postponed their interview owing to the absence of Major Atkinson and Mr. Johnston. The committee appointed to consider Captain M'lntyre's application for a remission of the rojalty of t'ourpenoo per ton on ballast taken from any part of I the harbour, and threepence per ton on ballast ■hipped at the Railway Wharf, reported that they could not recommend the remission in the first case; and, with regard to the threepence per ton, fresh by-laws were being prepared, when tho matter would be favourably considered. The roport was adopted. The Chairman reported that he had given the Harbourmaster instructions to prepare each month a return of arrivals and departures. The Bank-book showed the Board's overdraft to be £25,517 19a 3d. The Chairman stated that ho had received semi-official information that the debentures for .£30,000 had been taken up at 104, or a premmat of £4. The cash receipts of the Board from all sources during the month were reported to be .£429 3s 2d. A etter was read from the Town Clerk, asking tho Board if they would pay half the cost of concreting the side-walk from the Queen's wharf to Plimmer's wharf— _4i 13s 3d— but the Board decided to let the matter stand over, having no funds available, except for absolutely necessary works. Permission was granted to Mr. E. Martin, of Austen-street, to aroct a boatshed -between Oriental Bay and Point Jorningham. Messrs. W. and G. Turnbull, agents for the barq«e Glenlora, now loading at the wharf, wrote complaining of the manner in which the wool was dumped, and stating that the presses were inefficient. Mr. Jackson said the alterations being made would effect an improvement, but the presses were too slight for the work. The letter was referred to the Wharf Committee, and the Board adjonrned.
