THE MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.

Sib — What does Mr. George Fisher mean by saying that his employment as one of the Government reporting staff will not interfere with his duties as Mayor P I have taken the trouble te ascertain from the minutes of the Council the number of attendance? he put in during the Parliamentary cessions of 1878, 1379, and JB3O (he resigned at commencement of Besßion 1881), and I find as follows: — 1878 — Council meetings, 13; at tendances, 3. 1879— Council meetings, 11; attendances, 4. 1880— Council meetiaga, 10 ;

attendances, 1. These eight meetings whioh ho attended ont of the 34 were merely to put in an appearance to keep him from being disqualified; as he generally only remained until the minutes were read, he having no time to stay from, his reporting work. With this result in the past, as a mere Councillor, what better can we expect now that he aspires to the office of Mayor, whose principal duty is to preside at th 3 Council meetings with that urbanity and dignity of which he boasts to be possessed. As an independent man, Mr. Young can devote his time to the office, and Mr. Hutchison as a member of tho House can pair off and attend the Council whenever he likes, but Mr. Fisher ie absolutely tied to hig place, and cannot leave, as he knows full well, having been refused leave more than once ere now. I am, Ac, Obsbrveb.
