The Public Works expenditure during the past quarter has been £211,543, viz. — Railways, £130,339; roads, £37,503; public buildings, £13,939; land purchases, £10,598 ; lighthouses and harbour works, £5,650 ; departmental, £3,463 ; telegraph extension, £1,812; immigration, £1,678; charges, &c, £1,357 ; surveys, £193 ; contingent defence, £20. The balance of the Public Works Fund remaining unexpended on the 30th ult., was £1,500,949, including £415,000, the balance of Imperial Guaranteed Debentures not yet issued.
