London, 25th October. Consols have advanced i, and are quoted to-day at 99J. New Zealand securities are firm at the following quotations : — Five per cent. 10-40 loan, 100 1 ; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 103 J ; 4_- per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 98J. The market for colonial breadstuffs is unchanged. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 58s ; New Zealand ditto, 553 ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 425. Australian tallow remains at yesterday's quotations ; best beef, 39a ; best mutton, 42b per cwt. A movement on the part of the landlords in Ireland is now on foot to take combined action for their mutual protection against the working of the Land League. Calcutta, 25th October. Official despatches received to-day from Afghanistan fully confirm the telegram of the 17th instant, announcing the occupation of Herat by the Ameer's army. The despatches further state that Abdul Rahman's troops met with no resistance in their march upon Herat, and that the occupation of the city was entirely unopposed by Ayoub Khan The announcement received on the 18th instant that Ayoub Khan had fled to Persia is further confirmed by the despatched now to hand. Capetown, 26th Ootober. Telegrams are to hand from Pretoria announcing that the Transvaal Volksraad held a sitting to-day, when the ratification of the Anglo-Boer Convention was agreed to. The resolution of the Volksraad seta forth its reliance that the British Government will adhere to the promise it has made to modify the Convention where its working may be deemed infeasible.
