SOUTH WELLINGTON ELECTORATE. f^i ENTLEMEN— The division of tho city \M into separate electorates has compelled me to make a choice between tho East and West sideß of Tory-street. 1 have decided to solicit the auffrages of the Electora of Te Aro, but I hope to retain your goodwill and influence, for, believe me, gentlemen, I very keenly appreciate your approbation, and would do much to retain it. 1 gay with all sincerity it is above measure pleasant to me to know that ao considerable a number of my fellow-citizens deem mo fit represent them in Parliament. I am, gentlemen, Yours faithiully, CHAS. J. JOHNSTON. To the gentlemen signing the requisition. TO THE ELECTORS OF THORNDON ELECTORAL DISTRICT. /~^ ENTLEMEN.— At the request of my KM friends, I beg to state that I now have fully determined to offer myself as a candidate for a Boat iv the Houso of Representatives for tho above elect >ral district. I shall avail myself of tho honour of addressing you personally before the day cf election. The principles I purpose enunciating shall be thoroughly radical. My supporters are hereby cautioned not to pay any attention to stupid reports that I am only running as an advertisement to my business or in favour of any other candidate, aa euch reports are only maliciouß electioneering canards. Yours faithfully, THUS. DWAN. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIRAEAPA SOUTH. /^ ENTLEMEN— In accordance with my \M already published intention, I now beg to offer myself as a candidate for tho representation of your district at the coming general election. I cannot but regret the recent division of the old electorates, and in this expression I feel satisfied public sympathy goes with me— not only in thia, but in the majority of other districts of the colony. Un ; on, and not dissension, should be the watchword of all the sections of such a district as this, as well as of all its settlers, whether living in town or country. Tho widespread feeling which ha 3 recently arisen that it' we are to prosper as a colony we must unite in developing the many natural resources which lio in abundance around ua, haß found its expression in the prominence attained by tho local government and other similar questions during last session of Parliament. Since becoming a settler amongst you, any sSFvices I may have been able to render in this direction have always met with the most generous recognition ; and I can only assure you that if elected, no effort on my part will be spared in assisting to place these all-important questions upon a satisfactory footing. The Native question requires moro than passing notice. It i 8 intolerable that the colony should be called upon to maintain a standing army at such a ruinous expenditure, and To Whiti should be sternly told (in deeds, and not in words), that his latest departure is in reality his last. Upon the other variouß questions which will engago the attention of electors, I shall be happy to explain my views at tho several centrea of population in the electorate. While freely acknowledging the important services rendered by tho Hall Government at a critical period of tho colony's history, I shall decline to pledge myself to any party, but will give my support in the direction beat calculated to dcvelopo the material interests of the country genoraUy. I remain, Yours faithfully, W. C. BUCHANAN. THE MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE CITY OF WELLINGTON. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN -A report having been put in circulation that it is Hot my intention to contest tho coming Mayoral election, I desire to give Buch 1 report an unqualified contradiction.
