ST. PETER'S CHURCH. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.
Sir — For some considerable time past I have noticed that, with the exception of a few visits from the Rev. Mr. Harvey, of St. Paul's, our Venerable Archdeacon has had no relief from the pulpit, besides the Rev. Mr. De Castro, who, I have been informed, has declined on more than one occasion to give way when other gentlemen have expressed a wish to officiate at the evening services. At the presant time, when there are so many delegates from other parts of the district to the Synod, yesterday's services were relieved last evening by Mr. De Castro by a sermon of half-an-hour's duration, which exercised the patience of a good many of the congregation. The venerable incumbent periodically charges his congregation with the important necessity of providing for the payment of the existing liabilities on the church, but I do not think that the desired ends are likely to be attained in a very rapid manner if, upon occasions like the present, a large number of talented preachers are in onr midst and are not invited to visit our church. In conclusion, I would mention that hiß Lordship the Bishop rarely condescends to visit us, though I hear of his frequent presence at other churches of the diocese. I am, Ac, Chubchman. Wellington, 10th October, 1881.
