Napier, 11th October. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's spring meeting to-dty was very successful, the attendance being large, the fields good, and the racing fair. Hawke's Bat Guineas, of 105 soys ; 1 mile. Walter's filly, by Hippocampus — Slander 1 Russell's Kincraig, by Javelin — Hannah 2 Russell's Sydney, by Javelin — Mina ... 3 Time, lmin 50jsec. Handicap Hurdle Race, of 60 soys; 2 miles. Douglas's TTira, lOst 1 Lyon's Loch Lomond, list ... ... ... 2 Macintosh's Will-if-I-Can, 9st 3 Won by three lengths. Spring Handicap, 200 soys ; 1J miles. MDonald's Badsworth, 7at 71b 1 M'Donald's Foul Play, 9at 71b 2 Waltera's Grand Duchess, 7st 101b ... 3 Mr. Back's Rewi, 7sfc 31b ; Mr Ruddick'a My Dream, 7st 51b ; Mr. Martin's Mischief, 7at; Mr. Murtagh's Angler, Cat 8lb; Mr. Russell's Kincraig, 6sfc 81b, also ran. Betting—Even on Mischief, 5 to 4 ag3t Badsworth, 7 to 4 Duchess, 3 to 1 Foul Play, 4 to 6to 1 others. Mr. M'Donald declared to win with Badsworth. The flag fell to a wretched start, Duchess getting the worst of it. Rewi made the play, and held a lead of ten lengths on passing the Stand, followed by Badsworth, My Dream, Mischief, and Foul Play in order. Rewi soon dropped back. Foul Play improved his position, and on coming into the straight the old horse had it all his own way. Williams stopped him, however, and allowed his stable companion to win, Grand Duchess being an indifferent third. The favorite cut up badly, and she was never dangerous at any part of the race. 1 Maiden Plate, of 50 soys ; H miles ; the winner of the Gnineas to carry 71b penalty. Waltera's Slander filly + M'Lean's Louie ... . ... t Douglas's Venture 3 A dead heat between Slander filly and Louie. Flying Handicap, of 15 bovb ; £ mile.
