RESIDENT MAGISTRATE COURT. This Day. (Before Mr. Edward Shaw, R.M.)

BUNDAT TRADING. William Poppens, landlord of the Princess Tkeatro Hotel, Tory-street, was charged on remand from Wednesday with unlawfully selling certain alcoholic liquor to Mary Hobbens on fundav, tho 11th September. Mr. Edwards defended. It wa3 shown that the defendant ha 1 been twic» previously convicted for similar offences during the present year, on which occisions he had been fined £2 and .£3 respectively. His Worship reujarked that these convictions appeared to have no deterrent effect upon the defendant, and consequently on the present occasion the law must be thoroughly vindicated. A penalty of £o, and 19d costs, was imposed.

Rodoriok Wilson, a young man, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of trousers, value 14s, belonging to Herbert' Jerald. He was sentenoed to 21 days' bard labour.
