[advertisement.] A FRAUD IN THE HOTJ3E OF REPRESENTATIVES. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST. Sir— Can yon iuform a puzzl.d public which is the High School, Wellington," set down for .£3OO in the Supplementary Estimates submitted to Parliament last week? I take the Kstiniatea as they appear in the pages of your morning contemporary of last Thursday. I am not aware of any public institution bearing that name, and I am almost tempted to believe that the recipient of this .£3OO is none other than our old friend the Wellington College, which figured a few weeks ago in the ordinary Estimates for the very handsome sum of £600. I should not be at all surprised to find that habitual and shameless mendicant applying to Parliament for peenniary aid twice in the same session, the only thing that makes me hesitate is the alias, which seems to imply a slight sense of shame in making the application, bnt even professional beggars have been known to blush at times. The House of Representatives seems to have been very remiss in passing this item without note or comment, and in default of light from any other Bonrce, we must turn to the Fourth Estate of the Eealm for an explanation, which seems to be the only efficient guardian left us in these parts. I am, Ac., Inquirer. To thia letter the Editor of the Even mo Post replies as follows, in the ißßue of the 27th inßt :— " Answers to Correspondents. " Enquirer— The ' High School, Wellington,' set down for £300 in the Supplementary Estimates, is the Wellington College. We do not think any good purpose is likely to be served by the publication of your letter, which therefore we must decline." 28th September, 1881. gALSALINE. JT. STEELE'S • Special Advertisement.
