FUNERAL OF THE LATE PRESIDENT.

[p.euter's telegrams. I Washington*, 26th September. The funeral of the late President Garfield took placo to-day at Cleveland, in Ohio Stato. There were fully 17,000 visitors from all parta of the country for the occasion, and enormous crowds of the residents were al3o present. The funeral procesaion was moat imposing. Among those forming the same were Secretary Hayes and members of the Cabinet, a large number of members of Congress, and 150 J notable personages, including representatives of foreign countries. The utmost reverence was shown throughout the ceremony by the multitudes present. Business was entirely suspended during the day throughout the United States. London, 26th September. Business was partially suspended to-day in this city and in many towns in England, as a mark of respect to the memory of the late President Garfield, on the occasion of the funeral at Cleveland. The New Zealand and Australian mails, via Snez and Brindisi, were delivered here to-day. Consols have advanced £, and are quoted to-day at 995. New Zealand securities are unchanged. Five per cent. 10-40 loan, 102£ ; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 102* ; 4£ per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 99i. Adelaide wheat, ex store, has advanced Is, to 5Ss. New Zealand wheat remains at 555, and Adelaide flour, ex store, at 41s 6d. Australian tallow, best beef, 425 ; best mutton, 443 6d. At the wool sale to-day 10,000 bales were offered. A firm demand was experienced. Fine to finest qualities now rule id higher than at the close of last sales.
