THE MAYORALTY ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.
Sir — Buay Rumor, with her many tongues, i 3 already on the trail. A story has reached me to the effect that I have " put up " in the interest of Mr. Young, to defeat Mr. Hutchison. I have little doubt that it would be as easy to trace this story, as it was to trace some other stories connected with the late Thorndon election, to a person who is " Skilled in the art to deepen scandal's tints With all the kind mendacity of hints, While mingling truth with falsehood, sneers with smiles, A thread of candor with a web of wiles." I think it will be sufficient to say, that to allow myself to be made a tool of now would be a complete reversal of all my previous career. I intend to beat both Mr. Young and Mr. Hutchison, if I can, fairly and honorably. I am, &c, Geo. Fisher.
