TINAKORI-ROAD GRIEVANCES. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.

Sir — Now that the now water-pipes are about to be laid in the Tinakori-road, it eeems to be a fit opportunity for ventilating the grievances under whioh the inhabitants of that street suffer. Some years back tho level of the road was altered by filling up from the top of Hawkestone-Btreet to Hillstreet. The result of this has been to put all tho houses on the lower side of the road some feet below the level of the footpath, and bo cause them to receive all the surface drainage of the road. Had another 3or 4 feet been taken off the top of HawkestoneBtreet, not only would this evil not have happened, bnt the Tinakori Road would have been accesßiblo to heavy traffic by Hawkestone-stroet, instead of its being necessary, as it now is, for all heavy vehicles to go round by Molesworth-street, whioh practioally plooesan extra tax upon the inhabitants of Tinakori-road in the shape of increased charges for carting. Two petitions have been before the Council on the subject, and it is a matter of great complaint to the whole neighbourhood. I beliove Mr. Baird was not the engineer who carried out such a ridiculous piceo of engineering as filling up to the level of Hawbeston-street, but I would call his attention, and that of the Council, to this matter before the balance of the Improvement Loan has been expended. I am, &c., FG.
