PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE.
? This committee will present the following report at the meeting of the City Council to be held to-morrow evening: — "The Committee beg to report— (l.) That they have carefully considered Mr. J. J. Curtis's claim for compensation on account of accident at the wharf and are of opinion that it cannot be allowed. (2.) That the City Valuer re-
ports that the amount claimed by tho Hon. Wi Tako Ngotata as compensation for land taken for Taranaki-street Kxtonsion, viz., .£llß 15b is a fair valnation, and thoy recommend that it be paid. (3.) That tho demand made by Mr. Alexander Wilson, for alteration of line of Conßtable-Btreet is an unreasonable one, and they recommend that it be not acceded to. (4.) That Mr. T. W. Bayliß has aikod for a reconsideration of his claim on account of his Kent Terrace contract, but they cannot recommend that it be acceded to. (5.) That a claim of £15 15s has been mads by Mr. Gordon Allan on account of Mr. D. Kelly for damages to hts oart, arising oat of the late coaoh accident in WiHis-street, but they cannot recommend that it bo acoaded to. The Committee beg futther toreoommond :— (6 ) That Messrs. Kelleher and Dealy be paid tho sum of £IOG 19a 4d. in full of all claims on their pipe-laying oontraot, and that that they be relieved of the same, the penaltios for overtime being waived. (7 ) That a drain be laid down in Dixonstreet, at an estimated cost of .£lB. (8.) That Palmer-street be kerbod and channelled on one s : de only, at an estimated cost of £36. (9 ) That Mr. G. Taylor, now in oooupation of one of the Market Hall allotments, be allowed to lease the same on the same terms and conditions as tho other allotments, at a rental of .£3O per annum; and that the adjoining vacant al'otment be leased on similar terms by public tender. (10.) That a sub-oommittee, consisting of Councillors Greenfield, Newman, Stafford, and Thompson be appointed to give formal possession of the wharf to the Harbour Board on tho Ist October. (11.) That after tho Ist October all water for supplying tho shipping at the wharves and Waterloo Quay bo snpplied to the Harbour Board by meter, at the rato of 2s 6d per 1000 gallons (12.) That hydrants for supplying vessola lying at Waterloo Quay, be provided as soon as the main is laid down. (13.) That Drnmmondstreet be repaired, estimated oost £30. (14.) That a water main be laid down in Belfaststreet, estimated oost £9. (15.) That a drain be laid down in Pipitea-atreot. estimated oost .£SO. (16 ) That Upper Molesworthstreet be channelled, estimated oost .£97. (17.) That a committee, consisting of Councillors Allen, Greenfield, and Logan, the Town Clerk, and tho City Survoyor wait on the Hutt County Counoil and solioit their consent to the water mains b**ing laid along the Hutt Road. (!8.) That acoounts, amounting to £139 Is 9d, be passed for payment.
