New Zealand securities :—5: — 5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 101£, ex div. ; 5 per cent. 1839 loan, 102* ; 4i per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 99±. Adelaide wheat, per 4961b5., ex warehouse, 565; New Zealand wheat, per 4961b5., ex warehouse, average qualities 55s 6d ; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 41s 6d. Australian tallow — Best beef has advanced to 37s 6d , best mutton remains at 395. At the wool sale to-day, 11,800 bales were catalogued . The tone of the auction showed that prices have a hardening tendency. The carcases of beef brought per steamship Protos are found to be in good condition, but have not as yet been sold. The Orient steamship Cuzoo has arrived at Plymouth. The cargo of frozen meat, consisting of 5000 sheep, &c, is pronounced in excellent order. The Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend at the rate of 6 per cent, for the past half year. Numerons collisions have taken place at several places in Ireland during the past few days between the police and the people, and much disorder still prevails in many parts of the country. It is announced that Mr. J. W. Chitty, Q.C., has been appointed a Judge of the High Court of Justice of England. New Yobk, 6th September. Further intelligence from New Mexico shows that General Carr and his detachment of American troops were not, en previously stated, massacred by the Indians, but were made prisoners and confined in a fort. From this the General and the bulk of his offiaers and men subsequently effected their escape, but in their flight eleven of the party were killed by the Indians. Pabis, 6th September. M. Gambetta, President of the Chamber of Deputies, made a speech to-day, in the course of which he strongly advocated the adoption of a policy of free trade by France. Washington, 6th September. Telegrams received to-day from Long Branch report that since his arrival President Garfield has shown symptoms of fever, and his pulse is exceedingly high.
